Are you ready to create peace, spread love, and generate positivity in Mar Vista?
Together: We'll have a day of fun in the sun with our community while enjoying a picnic, games/ activities, live music and more!
Why this project matters: The Peace Love and Positivity service group & Better Angels invites the Mar Vista and greater Los Angeles communities, including our unhoused neighbors to join in the festivities and connect those in need to local and government resources. When we work together as a community with fellow volunteers to build connections and meet the urgent needs of people living outside, our entire community benefits.
Wear: Please wear clothes you don't mind being active or dirty in. If you've volunteered with us before, please wear your Better Angels T-shirt to show your support!
Tools: We will provide any of the functional items needed for the event. We will contact you as we get closer to the event about designated role assignments.
Age: All ages are welcome. Teams with members younger than 14 will participate with a parent or guardian.
What We Will Do
- Join the PLP Service Group and Better Angels at the Mar Vista Recreation Center. Look for our light blue T-shirts, light blue flag, and PLP service banner (big read heart logo).
- Check in at the designated check in booth and receive instructions for your shift.
Shift 1: 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. - Setup
Shift 2: 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. - Setup/Greeting
Shift 3: 1 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. - Picnic Support
Shift 4: 3 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. - Picnic Support
Shift 5: 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. - Picnic Clean up/Breakdown
- Get the tools you'll need.
- Serve, play, and enjoy the community together! We will be making burgers, veggie burgers, and hot dogs with chips and drinks; along with potluck-style side dishes ( pre-packaged or prepared with gloves with mindfulness of COVID standards). If you want to sign up for a side dish, you will be able to do so via the Google link . You do not need to bring a dish to attend or participate.
What will be available:
- Arts & Crafts
- Live performances, musicians and a DJ - an opportunity for the public to join in for spoken poetry, songs, dance etc
- Food/Drinks
- Access to the community pool ( Mar Vista Parks & Rec rules and guidelines apply)
- Local & government resources for our unhoused neighbors
