Do you enjoy working outside with positive people?
Are you ready to make a difference in West L.A. by picking up trash?
Together: In partnership with VIA, the young adult group at Saint Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Westwood, we will be cleaning up the roadsides near a large encampment. In just a few hours, your energy and your presence can help create a cleaner, safer environment for our community.
Why this project matters: Having lots of trash around is bad for everyone in our communities - unhoused and housed. When we work together with fellow volunteers to meet the urgent needs of people living outside, our entire community benefits.
Wear: Please wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty. If you've volunteered with us before, feel free to wear your Better Angels T-shirt to show your support! If this is your first time volunteering, please complete your waiver on your profile and specify your t-shirt size too.
Tools: We will provide trash bags, tools, and gloves if you need them.
Age: All ages are welcome. Teams with members younger than 14 will participate via trash reporting or park cleanup.
What We Will Do
- Join the Better Angel's group in the Odyssey Theatre parking lot. Look for our light blue T-shirts and our light blue sign.
- Sign in and receive a Better Angels T-shirt, if needed.
- Get some coffee from the theatre and enter a raffle to win theatre tickets.
- We'll meet up and chat about our plan to clean up.
- Get the tools, gloves, and trash bags you'll need.
- Walk in small groups to nearby areas to pick up trash, respecting street residents' privacy. We only pick up items that don't belong to anyone.
- After: Return to our meeting spot to wash your hands, share cold drinks, connect, and talk about your experience and other volunteer opportunities.
