Are you ready to make a difference in the Reseda area by serving our unhoused neighbors?
Together: We'll provide a warm meal and additional resources to our unhoused neighbors by partnering with local service vendors. Your presence and volunteering will help create a welcoming, supportive, and safer environment for our community.
Why this project matters: Our unhoused neighbors will get some urgent needs met and connect with local service providers and case managers. Every Wednesday, Kingdom Common Grounds at the First United Methodist Church of Reseda provides a hot sit-down meal in a beautifully decorated dining room, warm showers, a full (free) "farmer's market", shopping and styling in a full clothing boutique, free haircuts, free childcare, and children's books. When we work with fellow volunteers to meet the urgent needs of vulnerable neighbors, our entire community benefits.
Wear: Please wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty. If you've volunteered with us before, feel free to wear your Better Angels T-shirt to show your support!
Tools: We will provide any necessary supplies
Age: All ages are welcome. Teams with members younger than 14 will participate with their parent/ guardian.
Note - we are expanding the shift times. If you cannot serve the entire shift, sign up and then add a note to your response about your availability.
What We Will Do
- Join the Better Angel group at the entrance off the parking lot. Look for our light blue T-shirts and our light blue sign
- Sign in and receive a Better Angels T-shirt, if needed.
- We'll meet up and chat about our plan for duties
- Get the instructions you'll need.
- Share a meal with the guests
- After: Share your experience with the onsite volunteer coordinator and find other ways you'd like to serve.
List of volunteer roles: You can select a preferred volunteer role 2-3 days before the event. Otherwise, we will assign you a role will be assigned to you and share it in a confirmation email 1 day before the event starts. Be aware that re-assignment may happen due to limited spacing and to meet guest needs and event effectiveness.
- Unload our van
- Set up Tables, Chairs, Signs & Decoration
- Charging station - set up and then assist guests with charge devices
- Guest greeter/Counter - Greet, direct, and count how many guests are entering the site
- Event Navigation - help guests find the resources they need
- Assist with meal preparation and serving
- Guest Belonging Attendant - Make sure guests know where they can leave their items attended and the volunteer will make sure items are not stolen)
- Hygiene Distributor
- Performer - Sing and play music for the event
- Safe Parking - connect guests living in their vehicles with the nearby lot
- Documentarian ( Photographer of the event while keeping guest dignity as top priority - covering volunteers and the work they are doing)
- Activity/Art Coordinator
- Take down table, shairs, signs, and decorations
- Load the van
