Opportunities From: Better Angels' Volunteer Hub

Together: We'll provide a warm meal and resources to our unhoused neighbors by partnering with local service vendors. Your presence and volunteering will help create a welcoming, supportive, and safer environment for our community.

Why this project matters: Our unhoused neighbors will get some urgent needs met, which everyone deserves. Every Wednesday, Kingdom Common Grounds at the First United Methodist Church of Reseda provides a hot sit-down meal in a beautifully decorated dining room, warm showers, a full (free) "farmer's market", shopping and styling in a full clothing boutique, free haircuts, free childcare, and children's books.  Partnering with Better Angels, we will invite more local resources for their guests to access at this location.  When we work with fellow volunteers to meet the urgent needs of people living outside, our entire community benefits. 

Wear: Please wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty. If you've volunteered with us before, feel free to wear your Better Angels T-shirt to show your support!

Tools: We will provide any necessary supplies, tools, and gloves if you need them. 

Age: All ages are welcome. Teams with members younger than 14 will participate with their parent/ guardian.

What We Will Do

List of volunteer roles: You can select a preferred volunteer role 2-3 days before the event. Otherwise, we will assign you a role will be assigned to you and share it in a confirmation email 1 day before the event starts. Be aware that re-assignment may happen due to limited spacing and to meet guest needs and event effectiveness. 

Join us as a Volunteer Shower Attendant at our weekly Resource Day at First United Methodist Church of Reseda. Volunteers will help manage the shower area, ensure guests have fresh towels and hygiene kits, keep the space clean and welcoming, and assist with the sign-up list to help everyone enjoy a safe and respectful experience. Why this work matters: For many of our guests, taking a shower is more than just a basic need — it’s a moment to feel refreshed, cared for, and human again. Your presence helps restore comfort and dignity while creating a warm and supportive environment for everyone we serve.

VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR ASSISTANT – FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH OF RESEDA Do you enjoy organizing people, creating order, and helping things run smoothly? Better Angels is partnering with First United Methodist Church of Reseda to find a Volunteer Coordinator Assistant who can help support our weekly Resource Days. Each week this site provides food, showers, clothing, and connection to individuals and families in need, and it takes a caring team to make it all happen.

We are looking for someone who can assist the lead Volunteer Coordinator with organizing food and donation deliveries, greeting volunteers, helping with sign in sheets, and keeping communication clear and positive between all teams. Your role ensures that every volunteer feels supported and every guest receives the care and respect they deserve.

Why this work matters: Behind every act of service is someone coordinating, communicating, and making sure the details come together. By volunteering as a Coordinator Assistant you will help strengthen the systems that allow Better Angels and First United Methodist Church of Reseda to serve hundreds of guests every month. Your time and leadership will directly help create smoother and more impactful service days for everyone involved. This is a great opportunity for anyone who enjoys teamwork, leadership, and making things happen. No formal experience is required, only strong organization skills, a warm attitude, and a willingness to serve. Whether you can help weekly or a few times a month, your support will make a lasting difference. DONATION DRIVE LEADERS: BETTER ANGELS AND FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH OF RESEDA Inspire generosity and help collect essential donations for families and individuals in need. Join us as a Donation Drive Leader supporting our partnership between Better Angels and First United Methodist Church of Reseda. This is your chance to lead with purpose, mobilize your community, and make a lasting impact through compassion and care.

WHY THIS WORK MATTERS Every donated item tells a story of kindness. At Better Angels, we believe that ending homelessness requires both systems of support and human connection. Through our partnership with First United Methodist Church of Reseda, we host donation drives that directly support families in transition, unhoused guests, and individuals in need throughout the San Fernando Valley. As a Donation Drive Leader, you will help turn generosity into real change by organizing efforts that provide clothing, hygiene kits, and household essentials that restore hope and dignity to those who need it most.

WHAT YOU WILL DO As a Donation Drive Leader, you will work with the Better Angels Volunteer Engagement team to plan and lead donation efforts in your community. You will help recruit and inspire others to give, manage logistics, and ensure donations are collected and delivered efficiently. You may plan and host drives at your workplace, school, church, or community group. Collect and sort donated goods such as clothing, hygiene kits, and household items Coordinate with the Better Angels team to schedule drop-offs at First United Methodist Church of Reseda Share photos and stories from your drive to inspire others Help raise awareness through your social media or local networks

WHO YOU ARE You don’t need prior fundraising or nonprofit experience. This opportunity is for anyone with initiative, organization, and a heart for service. It’s a great fit if you’re reliable, motivated, and passionate about helping families rebuild their lives. You enjoy connecting people to purpose, organizing logistics, and making a real difference in your community in a flexible and meaningful way.

WHAT YOU WILL GAIN Your leadership will help hundreds of individuals and families receive essential items and a renewed sense of hope. You’ll gain valuable experience in event coordination, community outreach, and donation management. You’ll also collaborate with an inspiring network of volunteers and partners through Better Angels and First United Methodist Church of Reseda. Volunteers are recognized through Better Angels social media spotlights, mixers, and community events — with opportunities to grow into future leadership roles.

TIME COMMITMENT This opportunity is flexible and requires about five to eight hours each month depending on the size and scope of your donation drive. LOCATION This role is primarily remote with optional in-person coordination and donation delivery at First United Methodist Church of Reseda, located at 18120 Saticoy St, Reseda, CA 91335.

Join us as a Haircut Helper at our weekly Resource Day at First United Methodist Church of Reseda. Volunteers will assist our lead hairstylist in providing free haircuts to community members. Tasks include helping with setup, managing the haircut sign-up sheet, sweeping hair between clients, and ensuring a clean and welcoming space. Why this work matters: A simple haircut can restore confidence and dignity for someone experiencing hardship. By lending your time and talent, you’re helping our guests feel seen, cared for, and ready to take on new opportunities. Volunteers must have an active cosmetology license and a heart for serving others. This is a meaningful way to use your professional skills to make a direct impact in your community.
